STATE PROGRAM OF THE MONTH

SEPTEMBER - Into the Breach (Featured) - FAITH

NEW STATE PROGRAM INITIATIVES

WRAP (Women’s Religious Assistance Program)- to encourage great participation from each and every member as they put their Faith into Action. This program will not only promote assistance to the Women’s Religious Orders but also to foster relationships with our nuns and sisters. We can help them in their needs as well as show them our full support in their service to humanity.

The Campesinos (Farmworkers) Program

(El Programa para los Campesinos) - California has many riches, including it being a state that is 80% agriculture, with tens of thousands of campesinos.  Most individuals do not know, farmworkers are a large part of the working poor. They have seasonal jobs that most of the time do not afford them the basic necessities, for example, food being the number one need. This program is meant to assist our farmworkers and their families through a variety of already established Knights of Columbus programs.

Cultural Devotional Practices - Hispanic, Filipino, Irish, Vietnamese, Chinese and other cultural groups have their own unique devotional practices, like novenas, processions, celebrations in honor of Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, Semana Santa, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Sto. Nino, St. Patrick's Festival, Feast of Our Lady of La Vang. These devotional practices will enrich the spirituality of Catholic families.

MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR MESSAGE

Indeed someone may say, “You have faith and I have works.” Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works…See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.”

– James 2:18, 24

Worthy Brothers,

The above-referenced words from our Holy Scriptures sum up our goal as brother Knights and why we have to invite more men and their families to partake in our global mission of evangelization through the charisms of protecting the domestic church and prioritizing faith and works of love. As followers of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we put our faith into action everyday as we practice the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.

One of my favorite works of mercy is counseling the doubtful as we are called to perform this in various ways. One way, as suggested by the USCCB and in relation to my message, is to accompany “…a friend who is struggling with believing to join a parish group for service.”

Being a brother Knight, we are called to the ministry of accompaniment, which involves taking ownership as our brother’s keeper with an intentional commitment to walking alongside others who need us. We live for one another and direct each other towards the path that leads to God.

One of the greatest ways to do that is to be a model of holiness for others and I believe the Knights of Columbus provides the perfect vehicle to live out the authentic Christian life. As stewards of God’s resources, I encourage you to offer the gift of membership in our Order to those who seek an adventure and a life of service.

This past August, our young people completed a pivotal spiritual exercise of attending World Youth Day. Let us build on their encounter with God and invite them into our brotherhood using our online platform and QR code pins (see the NEW FORM 100 below). For more information on the benefits of membership, please reference the “WHY JOIN?” brochure in addition to the Membership Benefits Form #2773 and give your testimony and witness to prospective members as to how being a member of the Knights of Columbus has transformed you as a disciple of Christ, son, husband, and/or father.

St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us as we approach your feast day during this month of September!

Fraternally,

EDWARD DANTES
